$12,000, ($9,000 to artist, $3,000 to Kaffeeklatsch)

Stephen Riether's work is intended to create conversation and discussion about contemporary and historical social, political, environmental and financial issues. His sculptures are intended to prompt dialogue and reflection about issues that affect us on a local and global scale.

Themes in Riether's work include: Fragments of a Current Civilization, Habitumen, and State of the Union. "The SELL" is a term coined by the artist to draw a connection between our daily habits and the underlying rate at which it is valued. The concept of SELL is not something alien to ourselves but rather we are connected more than we realize or perhaps feel comfortable with.

Stephen Riether is an artist living and working in Calgary, AB.

In the spirit of respect, reconciliation, and truth, we honour and acknowledge that we live, play and work upon the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We remain ever mindful of the ongoing impact of colonization and land rights, here as well as in the multitude of indigenous communities entangled globally in the agribusiness of coffee.

We hope people of all genders, abilities, ages, cultures and sexualities feel welcome here. As such, any form of discrimination will not be tolerated. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, fatphobic or ableist comments

  • Sexual harassment

  • Bullying

Patrons should consume alcoholic beverages in a responsible manner. Impaired and intoxicated guests will be removed in a prompt and safe manner.

Kaffeeklatsch will not tolerate violence, theft, vandalism or any other harmful acts.

We reserve the right to remove any patron creating an unsafe environment.

We wish to make Kaffeeklatsch a safe, welcoming and fun space for patrons, employees and performers alike. If at any time you are made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please let an employee know or email us at kaffee@kaffeeklatsch.ca.
