Not over you

NFS

two sided poster multiple

Commissioned for the Dunlop Art Gallery exhibition Tragedy Plus Time, curated by Blair Fornwald, Jennifer Matotek, and Wendy Peart.

Not over you communicates a spatial and affective state. It is a sign installed at a building’s roofline, and as a result, the piece is most often physically above its audiences. The text featured in this work inverts the object’s spatial situation and evokes a non-heirarchical system as well as a nostalgic condition. A new poster multiple associated with the project was specially printed for a solo exhibition at Artspace. In 2017, a second, two-sided edition of this multiple was printed for an exhibition at Contemporary Calgary.

This piece is part of a suite of works titled Not, including Not the one but there is no one else, first shown at the Sobey Art Award exhibition in 2013.

Mark Clintberg is an artist who works in the field of art history. He is represented by Pierre François Ouellette art contemporain in Montreal, Canada, and is an Associate Professor in the School of Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta University of the Arts.

In the spirit of respect, reconciliation, and truth, we honour and acknowledge that we live, play and work upon the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We remain ever mindful of the ongoing impact of colonization and land rights, here as well as in the multitude of indigenous communities entangled globally in the agribusiness of coffee.

We hope people of all genders, abilities, ages, cultures and sexualities feel welcome here. As such, any form of discrimination will not be tolerated. This can include, but is not limited to:

  • Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, fatphobic or ableist comments

  • Sexual harassment
